Convention Incorporation
Dear Friends,
At Oasis Assembly in August 2010, delegates made an historic decision and overwhelmingly passed a motion to accept the new Bylaw Document. This document gives a fresh definition of our relationship together as Baptists in Atlantic Canada and paves the way for Convention Council to complete the Incorporation of Convention. As discussed at Oasis, it had been the desire of Convention Council to “grandfather” all of our churches and associations into this newly incorporated Convention but discovered it is not legally possible. The Bylaw guarantees that you may express this desire by vote of your church or association at a properly called meeting and be automatically accepted as a Member. Soon after Oasis, a letter was sent to all churches and associations encouraging them to express their desire to continue to be a member of the Convention family. All of the information you need is also supplied on the Convention website with a copy of the letter and a template to be used by churches and associations to make things as seamless as possible (see below).
We certainly look forward to hearing from your church and association and trust you will move as quickly as possible to make a decision at this historic moment in the life of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches. May we continue to be faithful to the mission and mandate given us by the Lord Jesus Christ to “be” and “make” disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessings,
Dr. Peter L. Reid,
Executive Minister
The General Operating Bylaw for the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches was passed August 20, 2010 at our family business session at Oasis. A copy of the approved document including the amendments approved at Oasis is available below. Due to the size of the document, cost of printing & shipping, and the ease of transmission of information through the internet, the General Operating Bylaw will be available here. We have made every effort to minimize the size of the document so it can be easily downloaded. If you have difficulty downloading the document and do not have access to high speed internet, contact our office and we will send out a copy of the document.
A letter and template is currently being mailed out to all churches, associations, pastors and clerks. We apologize if you receive more than one copy but, because of the importance of this document, we felt that it is better to err on the side of making sure that everyone who needed to did receive a copy of the letter. A copy of the letter and sample return letter is available below.
Since the beginning of September 2010, we have been receiving letters from churches stating their intent of continuing their relationship with the newly incorporated Convention. View the list here or click below. Also note that you can now view the churches sorted by Associations. As of January 9th, we have received responses from 423 churches and 21 Associations.
