Running for an ABY Executive Position

Atlantic Baptist Youth Executive is a group of youth and young adults that are elected every two years by their peers. The ABY is an opportunity for youth and young adults between the ages of 15-26 to gain experience as leaders on the regional level by serving on the Executive. These individuals plan events that help to provide opportunities for Christian youth and young adults to connect and build relationships with one another as well as for them to celebrate their faith and grow in their Christian commitment.

At High school Springforth 2011 the ABY executive elections will be held. There are positions for NS reps (2), NB reps (2), PEI rep (1), vice-president, secretary, treasurer and president (this individual is required to have already been on the executive for one term). If you have a youth you that you think would be interested in this opportunity, could you please a) let them know and b) pass along their name and contact information to Jody Linkletter as nominations are now open. There is a form that the candidates will need to fill out, along with a pastor’s reference and 10 peer’s signatures. This is a great opportunity for your youth to have a voice in the planning of events like Springforth, Tidal Impact etc as well as to grow in their leadership skills within a Christian environment. The deadline for nominations and submission of notice of intent is March 16, 2011.

Founded in 1930, Atlantic Baptist Youth (ABY) has provided hundreds of Baptist youthages 15-28 with the opportunity to develop and hone their leadership skills by serving their peers in region-wide leadership positions.

The ABY executive exists primarily to plan a biannual summer leadership conference, called Quest, for Baptist youth from across the Atlantic Provinces and to assist in the planning of the biannual Tidal Impact youth mission tour. Frequently those on the executive receive opportunity to serve in other capacities in denominational life and they also develop friendships with other young leaders from across the region.

The Executive normally meets four Saturdays per year at different locations in the Maritimes. Elected members are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of executive meetings. Approved travel expenses are reimbursed by the executive.

The following positions are available on the executive and are filled by popular vote every two years:

  • President (must have served on the executive previously)
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

Provincial Reps:

  • Newfoundland (elected at Newfoundland Springforth)
  • Prince Edward Island
  • Nova Scotia (2)
  • New Brunswick (2)
  • African Association (elected at AUBA annual assembly)
