Evangelism & Discipleship of Youth (YMIN 6133)

Course Description:
This course will explore the topics of evangelism and discipleship. It will discuss how youth ministries can be structured around these two key biblical themes. The course will focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of both evangelism and discipleship. Topics will include: student peer-to-peer evangelism, large evangelistic events, student mentorship, small group ministry, and relevant resources.

Ministering to Young Adults (YMIN 7163)

Course Description:
Young adulthood, or emerging adulthood has become a new area of sociological research and an ever-growing interest in local churches who are failing to retain their youth after they graduate from high school. The reasons for this low retention are due in large part to the current practise of youth ministry and local church structures. They are also, in part, due to a lack of understanding of this age group, their culture and social patterns. This course will provide a demographic, social scientific and developmental overview as well as ministry implications to local churches.

Local Church Youth Ministry (YMIN 5123)

Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the practice of youth ministry in the local church with special attention given to ministry within the Atlantic Canadian context. Topics to be discussed include: understanding Atlantic Canada, developing a theology and philosophy of youth ministry, designing youth ministry programs for both large and small churches in rural and urban areas, adolescent spiritual development and much more.

Leadership & Youth Ministry (YMIN 6143)

Course Description:
This course will help students understand their own psychological type and its significance with regard to exercising leadership in ministry. Topics to be taught include: designing a program to assist adolescents grow as leaders, awareness of leadership issues that arise from serving on a church staff in the capacity of a minister responsible for youth, awareness of the identity of the youth ministered to by churches in Atlantic Canada, and the skills required to perform basic leadership tasks in Christian ministry including budgeting, communicating vision, and recruiting a leadership team.
