Donate to United In Mission
Although this ministry partnership called the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches exists to strengthen and enrich the ministry of local congregations (and not the other way around), it requires substantial means to carry out our shared mission. This is where ‘United in Mission’ (UiM) comes in.
UiM is the name of the mission fund of our Convention, and it is through this collaborative giving that we together can have such a vibrant impact in Atlantic Canada and beyond. We could not have this impact, however, without generous and sacrificial giving from churches and individuals to our UiM fund.
For more information on United in Mission please see the Development department section of this website.
To support United in Mission through your congregational offering
Many churches of our Convention include United in Mission in their annual budget. Churches may budget for United in Mission in a variety of different ways:
Some congregations have a ‘unified’ budget (meaning that a portion of general offerings are directed to missions through the congregation’s annual operating budget)
Other congregations have a ‘split’ budget where church members are encouraged to give to both ‘General’ and ‘Missions.’ In these cases ‘United in Mission’ usually receives a certain amount or percentage out of the Missions fund.
Yet other churches send in only those amounts which are designated specifically to ‘United in Mission’ through the donors’ offering envelopes.
If you do not already know, ask your pastor or treasurer which kind of budget your church operates with.
Churches sometimes wish to know how much their congregation should give as their part to United in Mission. Just as it is generally accepted that through Scripture God calls individual Christians to give a minimum of a tenth (their tithe) to their local congregation (sometimes referred to as “storehouse tithing" [see Mal. 3:10]), so a good starting point for many congregations would be to similarly give a minimum of a tenth of their total giving to United in Mission. Many churches do exceedingly more than a tenth, giving up to 25% - 30%.
In the inVision campaign of 2004 – 2006 each congregation was asked to prayerfully consider whether a suggested level of support would be an appropriate God-given goal for them for those three years. If you would like to know what the suggested level of support for your congregation was, then please contact Rev. Greg Jones.
The Treasurer’s Handbook aids church treasurers who would like more information for forwarding your congregation’s ‘United in Mission’ contribution, or other designated giving to Convention-affiliated ministries.
To Give to ‘United in Mission’ as an Individual
Since the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches is a ministry partnership created by and for Atlantic Baptist Churches, and because we encourage the principle of ‘storehouse’ tithing which encourages Christians to bring ‘their full tithe’ into their spiritual store house (their local congregation), we encourage individuals to consider “above and beyond" support to United in Mission after their full commitment has been made to their local church.
Why would an individual wish to support United in Mission directly? The reasons are many. For some, it is because they believe their own congregation should be doing more than they currently are in their support to United in Mission. For others, it’s simply because they grasp and are passionate about the importance of our ministry in resourcing congregations towards greater health and vitality, so that our churches may not just “survive" but actually “thrive" where God has them.
If you have a passion for the effectiveness and long-term health of all of our churches – rural, suburban, urban; small, medium, large – then please come on board as one of our individual supporters.
Common support levels include $25/month; $50/month; $100/month; or more. If you are interested in being one of our Convention’s personal supporters, please contact Rev. Greg Jones or you can directly mail your gifts to:
