Registration:
What kind of families will find this event of interest?
Generally, this trip will appeal to families with children aged kindergarten to grade 8 who are committed Christian believers and involved in ministry in their local church.
Do I have to have children to participate?
No. We are happy to welcome families with or without children. However cabins are assigned based on our ability to accommodate the maximum number of people.
We have preschool children in addition to our older children. Will childcare be provided during the ministry times?
Depends on the Ministry option you choose! Some of you will want to work with your children, others may not. Camp Staff will provide programming for Children during some of the event and ministry times. Most of the younger children take part in the childrens ministry during the mornings.
What is the total cost per family and what does the fee include?
$329 includes all meals but Wednesday supper, accommodations at the camp and all ministry associated costs.
Why is this event so inexpensive for our family?
This event is subsidized by the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches so that the opportunity will be open to more families.
What does the registration fee not include?
Supper on Wednesday, transportation to, from and during the event, and the optional whale watching expedition.
What are the sending churches responsible for?
Churches may choose to contribute toward the registration cost of the families they commission.
Can several families come from the same church?
Yes. We encourage a church to send a team of several families.
If I have more registration questions or questions about the event who should I contact?
Contact Dale Stairs.
Leadership:
Who is sponsoring this event?
The youth and family ministries department of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches.
Who will be the Director for the week?
Kevin Munroe
Accommodations and meals:
Where will people be staying?
Families will be accommodated at Edith Lank Memorial Camp in a combination of private cabins, a house, and tents/trailers. Families who can bring their own trailers or tents are encouraged to do so. All families should bring their own bedding and towels.
Are there water and electrical hook ups for the trailers?
Electrical – yes / Water - no
Will everyone eat together while on property?
Yes. Creating community is an important part of the event so all meals are served in the dining room. Meals will be prepared by excellent cooks!
Where is Edith Lank Camp?
On Campobello Island in the Bay of Fundy. You can get there by either taking the ferry to Deer Island, and then the ferry to Campobello, or by driving through Maine, and crossing the bridge at Lubec.
What does the camp have for amenities?
The camp owns a significant amount of scenic oceanfront. There is also a sports field, a climbing wall, an in-ground pool, a new (2005) dining hall, relatively new (2000)washroom and shower facility, as well as other buildings. Cabins do not have washroom facilities. The cabins are older and a little rugged, about on par with what you would expect for most summer-only Christian camps in the region. The camp also offers sea kayaking and archery!
Ministry:
What attitude should my family bring to this event?
This is a short-term mission trip for families. All families who apply and are accepted should come prepared to serve and minister to others. This is neither a family camp nor a week’s vacation. While the pace of the event and the amount of work differs from a traditional mission experience due to the presence of children, still the chief intent of the event is to help parents expose their children to the joys and possibilities of ministry and
mission.
What are the plans for ministry events in the morning and afternoons?
We will be partnering with Edith Lank Camp and Wilson’s Beach Baptist Church for both of our ministry projects. One project will be a construction/labour project at the camp, the other will be a children’s ministry outreach in cooperation with the church.
Can members of the same family serve at different ministry sites?
Yes.
Do we take our children with us to the ministry sites?
Yes. Normally our children would be a part of the children's ministry though some older kids may wish to be a part of construction project.
What types of ministry will the children do?
Children will be able to take on some leadership and assistance roles in the children’s ministry, and older children may be able to help with the construction/labour project.
When can I expect further details about our team’s ministry assignments?
Once we receive all the application forms we will be able to assign responsibilities and will contact you shortly thereafter. Applicants can expect further information by the end of April.
Family Time:
How much family time should we expect to have?
From 2:30 onward each day is designed as time for you to spend with your family. Some of this is free time, some evenings will include a family campfire, and on one of the evenings there will be a whale watching option!
What do we do during free time?
Campobello is a beautiful Island with lots of shore to explore and two very appealing parks (Herring Cove Provincial Park and Roosevelt Campobello International Park). As well the pool and sports field at the camp will be available for use during most of these times.
