Tidal Impact is Canada’s largest youth mission program and occurs every second year in two Atlantic Canadian locations simultaneously. TI began in 1989 with 69 participants and has grown to involve in excess of 1200 youth and leaders in the week-long celebration. Attendees have come from all across Canada, the US and Europe. Many youth have indicated that the event has been life-changing and has deepened their relationship with God.

The model for the event is simple – a local church invites a visiting church to partner with them in a week of mission and ministry. The host church provides billet accommodations and some of the meals and the visiting church youth group provides ministry muscle to go along with that of the hosts and together they impact their community. Dynamic worship experiences bring together all the participating churches and there are also opportunities for eating and playing together as the youth make friends from across the country.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the rally locations?

Sussex: 8th Hussars Arena, 8 Leonard Drive, Sussex [6]

Saint John: Kings Valley Wesleyan Church, 332 Hampton Road, Quispamsis [7]

Moncton: Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, 2460 Mountain Road, Moncton [8]

Does any space remain for visiting groups that would like to register?

Yes, interested groups should contact the registrar.

When is host church registration due?

Immediately

What does our $99 church registration fee cover?

Publicity, telephone, mailings, faxes, staffing, photocopying, etc.

What does the $119 individual registration fee cover?

Program costs: sound rentals, facility rentals, group suppers, speakers, artists, T-shirts, fun events, etc.

What is not covered in the fees?

Personal spending money, transportation and some meals.

Are individual registrations refundable?

No – but the registration is transferable to another person in your group. This means if one of your participants has to withdraw you can send another person in their place.

Do leaders pay the same fee as participants?

Yes – our costs are the same no matter what age. We are encouraging churches to cover their leaders’ fees.

Can our church send an intergenerational team to Tidal Impact?

Yes, by all means! Simply indicate that on the registration form.

I am from the host areas. If one of my participants can’t come during the day but only at night do I still have to pay the full fee?

Yes.

When will arrival registration take place at the event?

During the kick off rally in Sussex one leader from your group will go to the registration area to pick up t-shirts and id tags. All payments will have already been made so no payment is required.

Do we provide transportation for our own group?

Yes.

What happens if it rains when we are scheduled to do something outside?

Hosts and visitors should have alternate plans.

Are our billet hosts, parents and people from the local community invited to any of the rallies?

Yes, the final rallies on Friday night are open to the public.

Will there be time for me to do some training with my participants?

No. Groups should be trained before they arrive.

We would like to have time for our own team each day – when would be a good time?

A suggestion would be to meet during lunch or before each morning’s program.

When can we spend time with our church partners?

This year we have built time into the schedule on Wednesday night for this. Other suggestions would be: lunch meetings, fun events together, afternoon ministry together, etc.

What should we do about food?

The host church (billets) will provide breakfast and a bag lunch. Suppers not included in the overall program are to be decided upon jointly by host and visitor.

If my group goes to Tidal Impact Moncton will they get to hear the Saint John worship band and speaker?

No, the only time the groups are together is at the kick of rally on Sunday night, and that night will have a separate speaker and band

What if there is an emergency during Tidal Impact and I need to be contacted?

Please make arrangements with your host church for a number where you can be reached.

What other issues should I be thinking about before our team comes?

Check to see that your church liability insurance is up to date. Plan to have a commissioning service for your group before you leave. Have a meal plan on paper with your host church before you arrive. Make sure that your group clearly knows what is expected of them.

If I could do one thing to help the organizing committee what would it be?

Have your registration forms and fees in on time. We need to have final numbers to make a variety of program and budget decisions.

July could be fairly hot in NB – what precautions would you recommend?

Bring hats and sunscreen. Look for opportunities to be in the shade or in an air-conditioned space and take in extra fluids.

Do you have any other health and safety related suggestions?

Both hosting areas are safe places but when out around the participants should always be with a leader. It would be a good idea for a leader to have a cellular phone. Participants should be reminded to have comfortable footwear and that they need to eat something at every meal, as well as getting to bed at an agreed upon time.

Are we responsible to bring our own first aid kits?

Yes

If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact the registrar, Jacqueline Derrah, at 1-506-635-1922 x 101, or via email. [3]
