Rev. John Bloedow was born in Killaoe, Ontario. Mr. Bloedow felt called of the Lord to enter full time ministry and served in churches in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
Rev. Bloedow passed away on November 23, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Mona; one son, Paul; one daughter, Ruth Anne; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Wrenfred Bryant was born in Verdun, Quebec. Mr. Bryant was a graduate of Ontario bible College (The Toronto Bible College). He joined the army and served in the United Kingdom, Italy, Holland and Northwest Europe. In 1948 he came to Nova Scotia as a Student Minister to serve in Sunnyville and Guysborough County. He returned to Montreal to further his education at the Sir George William College. He returned to Nova Scotia to pastor Lucasville and Emmanuel United Baptist Churches, Cornwallis Street United Baptist Church and the Seaview Baptist Church, Africville. He served as Assistant to the General Secretary, Area Minister and President of the United Baptist Convention. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Acadia University.
Rev. Bryant passed away on June 1, 2006 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sisters, Merlyn and Sylvia; godson, Rev. Lennett Anderson; nieces and nephew.
Rev. G. Stephen Canton was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He was educated at Amherst Regional High School and graduated from Acadia University with a Masters of Divinity. He started his career as an ordained Baptist Minister working throughout the Annapolis Valley. He began, in 1981, his second career with the Correctional Service of Canada.
Rev. Canton passed away on October 1, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, David and Paul; two step-daughters, Nicole and Amanda; one step-son, Robert; one brother, James; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rev. Earl Clerke was born in Albert Mines, Albert County, New Brunswick. He felt called of the Lord to enter full time ministry in 1977. Mr. Clerke's call to service led him to many churches in New Brunswick.
Rev. Clerke passed away on August 8, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Carol; one son, David; two daughters, Catherine and Ruth Anne; two brothers, Russell and Randolph; five grandchildren, Emily, Julia, James, Elijah and Joshua; one uncle, Gerald and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. William Duffett was born February 18, 1928, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He attended Acadia Divinity College and was ordained as a Baptist Minister. He served pastorates in Maugerville and Hatfield Point, New Brunswick; Wentworth, Clementsvale, Nictaux, Arcadia, Waterville and Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.
Rev. Duffett passed away on November 15, 2006 at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife, Lois; three sons, Harold, Randy and James; one daughter, Lois; one sister, Mary Jane "Jennie"; three granddaughters, Emily, Leah and Hannah and one grandson, Jonathan.
Rev. Freeman Fenerty was born in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia. He received his early education in the schools of Middle Sackville and Bedford. He worked for twelve years before studying at Horton Academy and Acadia University. He graduated in 1938 with a B.A.(Th.). He later earned the M.Div. degree and was the recipient of an honorary D.D. degree from Acadia. While studying at Acadia, he was student pastor at Greenfield, Black River and Bishopville Baptist Churches in Nova Scotia. He was also student pastor at the Tabernacle, a mission of the Wolfville Baptist Church. After graduation, he served the First Cornwallis Baptist Pastorate, Kentville Baptist Pastorate, Aldershot-Alton Baptist Pastorate in Nova Scotia and First Baptist Church, St. John’s, Newfoundland. He was involved in church planting throughout the province while in Newfoundland. After his retirement in 1975, he was involved in a number of interim ministries in Nova Scotia. Mr. Fenerty served on several boards of the Atlantic United Baptist Convention and served as President from 1954 to 1955.
Rev. Fenerty passed away on October 14, 2006 at the age of 99. He is survived by one son, Laurie; one daughter, Sandra; four granddaughters, Celeste, Marilee, Myria and Ruthanne; two grandsons, Shawn and David; twelve great-grandchildren and one sister, Jessie.
Rev. Stanley Harrison was born in Burton on Trent, England. He was a graduate of Acadia University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Divinity with a degree in Theology. He served as a Baptist minister in several locations, including Springhill Baptist Church and Zion Baptist Church, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He also served as Prison Chaplain for the Springhill Minimum Security Institution.
Rev. Harrison passed away on November 13, 2006 at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Edith; two sons, Bill and Peter; two daughters, Joy and Susie; eleven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Alan Harwood was born in Reading, England. Alan spent his childhood in England and moved to South Africa where he did his theological studies. He went to Laos with the Overseas Missionary Fellowship in 1960. He spent 28 years in the mission field and when he returned, pastored five churches.
Rev. Harwood passed away on February 7, 2006 at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife Louise; two sons, Michael and Oliver; two daughters, Grace and Esther and seven grandchildren.
Rev. Robert Matthews was born in North London, England. After a short term of ministry in Newfoundland, he moved to Nova Scotia where he served as Pastor in Baptist Churches at Goldboro, Sydney Mines, Halifax, Dartmouth, Avonport and Annapolis Royal. He also was pastor in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
Rev. Matthews passed away on September 16, 2006. He is survived by one daughter, Margaret; two sons, Stephen and Geoffrey; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Rev. Eric Miner was born in Port Williams, Nova Scotia. Mr. Miner attended Acadia Divinity College and was ordained in Gaspereau United Baptist Church in 1948. His ministry included churches and pastorates in Black River/Greenfield, Advocate Harbour, Freeport, Barss Corner, Yarmouth, Mahone Bay/Northwest/Cornwall and Parrsboro in Nova Scotia and Tryon, Prince Edward Island.
Rev. Miner passed away on November 28, 2006. He is survived by two sons, Gregory and Graham; daughter-in-law, Darlene; two granddaughters, Joni and Jennifer; one brother, Leigh; two sisters, Margaret and Joan.
Rev. Eugene Thompson was born in Oxford, Nova Scotia. He graduated with a B.A. and M.Div. from Acadia University and received a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Acadia University. During his forty years of work with Baptists in Canada, Dr. Thompson served as a pastor, Area Minister, and Executive Minister. He also served on a number of boards and committees, including the Board of Trustees of Acadia Divinity College.
Rev. Thompson passed away on May 26, 2006 at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife, Rhoda; two sons, Adrian and Howard; one daughter, Nancy; one sister, Ruth; one brother, Calvin and four grandchildren Jenny, Kate, Nathan and Mikayla.
